Box Tops Boon For Rookie Coordinator

09/01/2011

Lisa Prechel has raised the bar on Box Tops earnings. In one week, the first-year coordinator at Pewaukee Lake Elementary, WI, netted 1500 Box Tops by scoring big with Bonus Box Tops at her local grocery store.

“It was quite a deal,“ explained Lisa. “For every 15 General Mills items purchased, the store gave you 100 Bonus Box Tops. I planned ahead, and 13 transactions later – along with some Bonus Box Tops featured on packaging – I walked out of the store with a boatload of Box Tops. Not too bad for a single week of earnings!”

Lisa learned about Box Tops last fall at a pre-K round up; she thought it was a fun idea and immediately got involved. “We set a family goal over the summer to collect Box Tops. We even recruited friends and family – people were sending us Box Tops from across the country, even Canada. It’s such a fun program for us to do as a family.”

Lisa spreads details via Facebook as Pewaukee Elementary has its own Box Tops page with regular updates, news and timely tips. She even sent kids home at the end of the school year with a Ziploc bag to continue to collect Box Tops over the summer. With an aggressive goal of $12,000 for next school year, Lisa plans to get a jump start on collecting to insure that Box Tops earnings can continue to fund field trips and teacher grants.

“Currently 32-percent of Box Tops earnings go to cover field trips for all grades,” explained Lisa. “This is such an important part of active learning for students. They can learn about animals and plants in science, but then extend that experience by visiting the zoo or a botanical garden. By getting the information in various ways, they’re better able to reinforce and retain what they’ve learned. ”
