middle schools

Just curious if there are any parents of middle school students here ?  If so, is collecting boxtops as successful in the middle school as it is in the elementary school?

RE: middle schools

Hi Wefrogy,

My daughter started Middle School this year. Being a coordinator for an elementary school I had checked to see how the Middle School was doing with Box Tops. Last year they had $0.00 submitted. There are 975 kids in our middle school. If they all brought in as many Box Tops as my daughter they could get the $20,000.00 that General Mills offers. I got involved ...I couldn't help myself. This year the Middle School has submitted about $300.00 for Box Tops. It is a start but I may never figure out why doesn't the Middle Schooler want to participate. Cool prizes not enough. Middle school absolutely has the potential to succeed.

Thank you.  My son will be starting middle school next school year and it doesn't seem like they participate at all.  They are showing at $0 since 2002.  I plan to speak up when we enroll him and see if we can get the school onboard.  It makes no sense not to.

Middle School will work. My school has gone from near $0 to over $500 this year, simply by having a contest between homerooms over the course of the year. Sixth grade seems to be the most excited about the contest and it dwindles as the students get older.

Gook Luck!

Hi Wefrogy,
There are collection sheets that are doing O.K. with the Middle School. You can download them from the "All abot Box Tops "tab,. I have used a football sheet and the basketball sheet.I try to tell the kids"Gotta be in it to win it!"Good Luck! I am sorry ,I created the football sheet and the basketball sheet is not there either. But I think that schools that use sheets earn more money.

RE: middle schools

I am the new coordinator for our middle school. I had assisted at the elementary level; collection seems a bit more challenging at middle school (maybe due to the age?) but it CAN be done. We just completed a contest among all the science classes and, after just 5 weeks of collection, we made over $800 for the school's science department! The class that brought in the most BoxTops won a class party (bagels/donuts in the AM, pizza or ice cream in the PM depending on the period time of day) I also create a small $1 or $2 BoxTops coupon to spend at our school supply store. These older students seem to reallly like class parties. The students talk about the contest on the morning news and updates are sent in the emails home to parents. I am always seeking new ideas for contests and incentives if anyone can offer some! To sum it up, BoxTops in middle school can be really fun especially since the students have outgrown the elementary parties, etc. It is something positive that everyone can participate in and get excited about!

We are from Michigan and our elementary and 5/6 building has particpated in the past. This year alone, my classroom has collected over one thousand boxtops! Student council offered quarterly pizza parties as incentives, and we got a little competition going among the homeroom classes. It's easy, the first time I made breakfast if my class brought in two each, and they've continued to go!

RE: middle schools

Our school has done similar to yours.  The sixth graders are the ones that are most competitive.  They have won all the contest (pizza party or breakfast, they choose) but they are with their teachers longer that the 7th and 8th.  First year was about $500, this year we are at $900.  Getting the teachers excited helps a lot.  One teacher has a bulletin board and her students record their labels as they bring them in.
