RE: New co-ordinator, need fliers information to jump start the contest
I'm not a coordinator but am a parent of a Kindergartner. I can tell you what NOT to do. My daughter came home with a piece of paper with 25 squares on it labeled "Boxtop Bingo". It had a space for her name and class and said that each child that turns in a sheet is entered into a drawing for a small prize. That's it. Didn't even have the words "Boxtops for Education" on it, didn't say what goes in the squares, why they're important, nothing. Fortunately, I had heard of Boxtops for Education through my couponing forum and figured that had to be what we were talking about. I had never collected them before and knew nothing about them. I had to find this site and look up the info on my own. So far my little 5 year old has been in school less than a month and turned in 175 boxtops and I almost threw it out because I didn't know what it was about!
So, here's what I'd tell your parents in your letter-
1. What are Boxtops for Education? Boxtops are small (usually) pink labels on certain products that schools can redeem for cash. (if you can put a picture of one here that would help, does not need to be in color). We recieve .10 for each boxtop that is turned in. Our goal this year is $XXX.
2. Where can I find Boxtops? Attached is a list of products currently offering Boxtops. Check your cupboards for Boxtops you may already have. When shopping, look for products that offer Boxtops. From time to time, products will offer Bonus Boxtops too.
3. How else can I help? Ask friends and relatives to save boxtops for your child. Register at www.boxtops4education.com and use the Marketplace when doing your online shopping. Major retailers such as (name a few here) will donate a percentage of your online sale to our school. Your price will be exactly the same as if you bought it online without using the Marketplace portal. Ask friends and relatives to sign up and use the Marketplace for their online purchases too.
Then, I'd do contests every month. Even though there is an October cut off, you can keep going for the next cut off. Getting parents and kids into a rhythm is probably the best way to keep building momentum and make this a "culture" of saving the boxtops.
So, contests can be things like the most number turned in each month, most turned in each grade, random drawing for anyone turning some in, etc. The prizes can be a little award certificate or a 6" gold star cut out of gold paper or something very simple (and inexpensive).
Good luck!
