low income schools
I'm a new coordinator this year. I have exhausted all efforts to get the news out about box tops. Last year we made $761.00. We only have 200 kids in our elementary school. Due to our lovely economy, many of our families are having a difficult time finacially. Does anyone have any advice on how to boost collections without affecting our families budgets? I have reached out to a few retirement homes and some local stores for help and they are now helping us collect. thanks kim

RE: low income schools
Local churches are usually great places to put a collection box.

Don't forget friends and extended family, even out of town, as well. I have a sister who collects boxtops and mails them to me every couple of months. Be sure to advertise in a local/neighborhood newsletter or subdivision website. There are people without kids who live nearby and it doesn't hurt to remind them to collect boxtops. Plus clubs, associations, or workplaces can be approached. I have a coworker who saves boxtops for me plus my dad's ham radio club.

RE: low income schools
First off, DON'T GET DISCOURAGED! I too am the coordinator for a small school in a low income area. I see other schools earning over $2000 a year and I get sad. I know that I do everything I can to bring in BT's for my school. I figure if it's only $300 then that is $300we did not have before. Try contests,I found that giving away a small webkinz brings in a ton. Talk to the teachers and other staff members. Get them to keep the kids excited about saving BT's. Stay positive and just do what you can. Good Luck!
