Bride of Frankenstein Cake

Throwing a Halloween party? Frankly speaking, this frightful cake is perfect for the centerpiece or "wedding cake", as you wish.

Ingredients

  • 1 box (18.25 oz) Betty Crocker® SuperMoist® white cake mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box
  • 1 container (12 oz) Betty Crocker® Whipped fluffy white frosting
  • 4 drops green food color
  • ½ cup Betty Crocker® Rich & Creamy white frosting (from 1-lb container)
  • 8 drops blue food color
  • 3 large green gumdrops
  • 2 large white gumdrops
  • 1 tube (0.68 oz) Betty Crocker® red decorating gel
  • 1 tube (0.68 oz) Betty Crocker® black decorating gel

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 2 (9x5-inch) loaf pans with cooking spray. Make cake batter as directed on box, using water, oil and egg whites. Pour batter into pans. Bake 38 to 43 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
  2. Trim about 1/4 inch off top of each cake to level. On long serving platter (at least 18 inches), place cakes bottom sides up to make long rectangle.
  3. In small bowl, mix 1/3 cup of the fluffy white frosting and the green food color until well blended. Reserve 2 teaspoons green frosting. Frost one-fourth of cake (top and sides) with remaining green frosting for face. Frost remaining cake with remaining white fluffy white frosting.
  4. In another small bowl, mix 1/2 cup creamy white frosting and blue food color until well blended. Place blue frosting in quart size Ziploc® Brand Storage Bag. Cut 1/4-inch off corner. Squeeze frosting onto white frosted part of cake in 6 wavy lines. Carefully use tines of fork to flatten slightly and add texture to top of each line.
  5. Place 1 green gumdrop on each side of face for ears and 1 for nose. For eye pupils, place 1 teaspoon reserved green frosting on each white gumdrop. Use decorating gels for eye lashes and lips.
