I just bought (nov 2008) 2 tubes of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls and went to cut the box tops and they were already expired 6/1/08.  I called the number on the package and they just said "sorry", they must have had some old packaging.  I would check all Pillsbury stuff before you buy it

The same thing happened to me with a tube of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls! Some Pillsbury biscuits I bought at the same time had box tops that were fine, though. Maybe it's only the cinnamon rolls?

FYI:  Coordinators have been told that they can still turn those in until December since they are still on the shelves.

Did they notify the coordinators by email?  I just tossed a bunch of those before the 10/31 deadline as I was told they didn't accept expired boxtops.

Reb,

If you're the coordinator log-in to the coordinator forum and do a search about expired Pillsbury or something along that line.  If you're a parent just put those expired Box Tops in a baggie/envelop w/ a note to your coordinator saying you'd just purchased the item w/ the expired Box Tops and ash her/him to verify on the Coordinator Forum that they can still be submitted.  A coordinator did get an e-mail saying these could be submitted because it was a printing error on Pillsbury part, I think??

It is true your coordinator can turn in expired box tops with 6/08 expiration date as long as they come from pillsbury or old elpaso products because as was previously mentioned a printer error.  they printed too many packages with that expiration date for them to be sold before that date.  just package expireds seperately from your others so your coordinator can submit them before dec. 31

This is not true...I am a coordinator and if those BoxTops are out dated ,or if the date is cut off or unreadable for whatever reason when  they are sent in they will be discarded. The company does go through all of them making sure they are eligible.           MelindaParadise

melinda,

please check the coordinator forum if you are a coordinator there are many threads on this  and yes they are still accepting 6/1/08 if they have the code from old el paso or pillsbury refridgerated product.  I personally have submitted these and have received credit for all of them.

I was  just going on my experience from last year... I had alot of the coupons declined because they were out dated, when I called the main office I was told "Sorry" it could not be excepted .... That we should check the expiration date in the store before we buy....I  couldn't see why they told me that last year and then turn around and allow it for this, just doesn't seem fair.  MelindaParadise

I am also a coordinator and have not recieved any information about the expired box tops - it is now Jan 2009 and I just bought Pillsbury Mini Buttermilk Pancakes and they still have 06/01/08 expiration date on them. I will be contacting box tops to see what they say. I did call the 800 number on the box and Pillsbury says that box tops is aware of this that they just printed up too many of the boxes before they could be used in time.

I don't know why they have expiration dates on them anyway.  Each coupon is only 10 cents.  I doubt that it would be that much of an extra expense for them if older coupons were submitted.  On some packages (General Mills cereals are famous for it) the coupon is sooooo small that it takes a magnifying glass to read it anyway.

Why does the company have to put an expiration date on the boxtops?  It is still a boxtop collected for the school.  It looks exactly like a nonexpired one so why waste the money putting a date on the product? It shouldn't matter.

Wow... thanks for the info!  I didn't even think about expired box tops.  We just purchase items looking for the logo!!  Thanks coordinators for the heads-up!

I also am a coordinator and was not told about the expired points.  I always throw away those that are expired and so probably threw away several...if not close to 100.  I wish that they had told us.

I also have 6/08 labels on new purchases of Pillsbury Mini Pancakes from the grocery store and Kleenex from our local Target store.  I was throwing them away because I thought that Box Tops would not accept them due to the expiration.  But now that I have read the forum entries I am going to keep them and submit them.  These were purchases made in Jan 09 and they should count toward our school goal.  It seems to me that it is a General Mills issue if their products carry expired coupons.  The consumer cannot control this, except I suppose by buying other products.  But I don't think consumers will "boycott" a box tops product just because it carries an expired label.  It is mostly a PR issue for General Mills.  It looks bad if they don't accept them when a kid takes the time to cut them out, submit them to school, and a coordinator sends them in.  So for PR reasons I think it makes good sense for these to be accepted as valid box tops coupons.  I hope someone at General Mills is reading this......  !!

I am a coordinator.

I sent in quite a few with the 6-1-08 date.

I got paid for EVERY SINGLE ONE!

Turn them in...turn 'em ALLLL in. I even got credit for ones that had the expiration date cut off.

The coordinators already know all about it. A company or two simply used old packaging or the printing of the new packaging didn't change the date. No big deal.

I too am a coordinator. When i called BT they state expired is expired they have no control over the fact that a manufacture is using up old packaging. I too mailed in my expired BT's and DID NOT GET ANY CREDIT! So you are lucky you did. I was told by BT to ask to speak to the Store Manager and point out the fact that the BT's are expired. They can then contact their vendor and voice their complaint and state they want current ones or will not carry the product. (Yes it's a bluff but it may get the vendor to pull old packaging) The more complaints a company gets the more they listen. Plus if you are VERY upset when you call to complain about it and tell they you will just buy another brand because you are buying it for the box tops to support your school they give you coupons most of the time as an apology. It worked w. Kleenex I got $2 in coupons

The expired ones are still on the shelves.  I saw some last weekend.  I guess Phillsbury  Cinn. Rolls did not change the date.   I probably have about $20 or more of these it seems like.

I wish I had read this before I threw away close to 500 tops that expired April and June 1, 2008!!!  I took on the job as coordinator for my school and there were so many tops (4000) that needed to be mailed in before 12/31/08.  Needless to say, my kids and I were clipping and counting for days over Christmas vacation.  Live and learn.  I'll have to watch this website more closely in the future.  Thanks for all the great information here!  Ann, Maine

So what is the purpose of the Expiration Date anyway?  At 10 cents a coupon, I don't think the liability would be that much more if they dropped the Expiration Date.  I buy some products in bulk because of good sales and their Expiration Dates might expire before I even get to the product.
