General Mills may deny participation in the program for failure to meet any of the verification or eligibility requirements.
Box Tops for Education Overview
Ways to Earn Cash for Your School
Cash can be earned for your school through the Box Tops for Education program in a variety of ways:
- The Clip program allows you to earn cash for your school by clipping the Official pink Box Tops for Education "Box Tops" from the packages of hundreds of purchased participating products. A list of participating products may be accessed at www.boxtops4education.com/earn/clip/Brands.aspx.
- In addition, from time to time participating products may carry extra on-package Box Tops during the year.
- eBoxTops credits can be earned for your school through various programs. You can earn eBoxTops credits by:
- shopping online through the Box Tops for Education Marketplace (“Marketplace”) accessed at www.boxtops4education.com/marketplace.
- completing activities through the Click and Earn program and other programs offered through our partners and advertisers accessed at www.boxtops4education.com/clickandearn and as explained in more detail in Section IV.
- Participating in various online sweepstakes and contests.
- Participating in occasional online promotions, such as website sign-up and opt-in for email registration.
- Bonus Box Tops, in the form of a physical certificate received in a store during a special offer, as a non-electronic sweepstakes prize, as an on-pack peel-off certificate, and also as an extra on-package Bonus Box Tops offered from time to time throughout the year, as explained below.
- Bonus eBoxTops, in the form of a physical certificate featuring a code which must be redeemed online for Box Tops credit.
Promotions and Bonus Programs
From time to time, there may be promotional programs offered whereby schools may earn Bonus Box Tops and/or Bonus eBoxTops through participating in special promotions or sweepstakes. Each Bonus program will have specific redemption instructions that must be followed. Bonus Box Tops will be issued through a printed official Bonus Box Tops certificate or an on-pack Bonus Box Tops certificate. Bonus eBoxtops will be issued in the form of an official Bonus eBoxTops certificate with a code. When entered online, the code will automatically credit the designated school’s account. Information regarding Bonus Box Tops and Bonus eBoxTops programs can be accessed through www.boxtops4education.com/earn/bonus/Default.aspx.
Maximum Annual Earning Amount
Each eligible school participating in the Box Tops for Education program may earn up to, but not more than, $20,000 cash per year (beginning on March 2 of every year) from the Clip program. There are no maximum annual earning limits for schools for eBoxTops credits, Bonus eBoxTops credits, or Bonus Box Tops. However, individual eBoxTops programs may have independent consumer earning limits based on transactions or activities.
Program Restrictions and Unacceptable Submissions
Box Tops and Bonus Box Tops certificates may be validly submitted only if they were clipped from product packaging by the final purchaser of the product contained in that packaging. Similarly, eBox Tops codes may be validly used only by the final purchaser of the product. By way of example, if Box Tops or Bonus Box Tops certificates are clipped from packaging material that is not part of the final sale of all components of the underlying product to the end purchaser of the product, submission of these Box Tops or Bonus Box Tops certificates is not permitted. In addition, the reproduction, modification, purchase, sale, or trade of Box Tops or Bonus Box Tops certificates (or any form of eBox Tops or Bonus eBox Tops) is not permitted, renders these items invalid, and renders any attempt to submit these items invalid. Moreover, any Box Tops or Bonus Box Tops certificates that have been defaced, mutilated, forged, rendered unreadable, or altered in any way, or that are missing expiration dates or alphanumeric codes are invalid and may not be submitted. UPC symbols are not a substitute for valid Box Tops and may not be submitted. General Mills reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to reject and to decline payment for (and/or permit other companies whose products participate in the Box Tops for Education Program to reject and to decline payment for) Box Tops or Bonus Box Tops certificates (or any form of eBox Tops or Bonus eBox Tops) in the event that General Mills determines, in its sole discretion, that they are invalid, expired, fraudulent, or otherwise prohibited by these Official Rules or that they are acquired, transferred, clipped, or submitted impermissibly, invalidly, fraudulently, or otherwise in a manner not permitted by these Official Rules. All submissions become the property of General Mills. When a school or school coordinator submits any form of Box Tops, failure to complete the online submission form for each submission package will invalidate the particular submission. Schools and/or coordinators are subject to expulsion from the Box Tops for Education program in the event that such school and/or any associated coordinator promotes the sale or purchase of Box Tops or Bonus Box Tops certificates, knowingly submits fraudulent Box Tops, or otherwise knowingly promotes activity that violates the rules in this paragraph.
General Mills, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to cancel without obligation, or alter the terms of, the Box Tops for Education program at any time.
Each participating school must designate a school coordinator in order to participate in the Box Tops for Education program. School coordinators will also be able to add or remove themselves or others as school coordinators or designees for their schools. However, General Mills reserves the right at its discretion to remove a school coordinator from the program at any time if it determines that the school coordinator is a detriment to the Box Tops for Education program.
Submitted Ideas, Suggestions and Information
All comments, suggestions, ideas, notes, drawings, concepts, recipes or other information disclosed or offered to General Mills through the Box Tops for Education program shall be deemed and shall remain the property of General Mills. By submitting any suggestion, idea or other information, you consent to its use by General Mills, including but not limited to its publication. You understand and acknowledge that General Mills has both internal resources and other external resources which may have developed or may in the future develop ideas identical to or similar to the suggestion or comments and that General Mills is only willing to consider the suggestion on these terms. In any event, any suggestion, comment or idea is not submitted in confidence and General Mills assumes no obligation express or implied by considering it. Without limitation, General Mills shall exclusively own all now known or hereafter existing rights to the suggestions of every kind and nature throughout the world and shall be entitled to unrestricted use of the suggestions or comments for any purpose whatsoever, commercial or otherwise without compensation to the provider of the suggestion(s).
To receive payment for any Box Tops submitted, eBoxTops credits, Bonus eBoxTops credits or Bonus Box Tops earned, schools must be enrolled and determined to be active in the Box Tops for Education program. If the designated school is determined to be inactive in the program, any Box Tops submitted on behalf of that school, and eBoxTops credits, Bonus eBoxTops credits and Bonus Box Tops earned will be deemed invalid. Checks will be made payable to the designated, active school, however they can be made payable to a school PTA/PTO if specifically requested by the school upon enrollment. Payments made to schools are not tax-deductible by schools, participants or purchasers. Payments will be made twice each school year, on or about December 15th and on or about April 15th. Each payment will include amounts earned by schools from the Clip program, eBoxTops credits, Bonus eBoxTops credits and Bonus Box Tops. The December 15th payment will reflect the amounts confirmed from March 2nd through the following November 1st, and the April 15th payment will reflect the amounts confirmed from November 2nd through March 1st. Schools that accrue total earnings of less than $20.00 from March 2nd through the following November 1st will not be issued a December 15th payment. Instead, those earnings will carry over and a payment will be issued for the entire school year to those schools in the April 15th payment. Allow 2 to 4 weeks for checks to arrive. If a school fails to cash any Box Tops for Education program check within 18 months of issuance, then the school shall forfeit its right to receive such payment. Active status in the Box Tops for Education program, and entitlement to any earnings, is conditioned upon the school cashing all earnings checks within 18 months of issuance. General Mills imposes this condition because of the time and cost associated with administering uncashed program payments for extended periods of time. General Mills will not replace checks requested more than 18 months after the original check was issued. Proof of Delivery and a valid copy of your online submission form will be required in order to research any discrepancies or payment disputes. For further information, please refer to the FAQs posted on www.boxtops4education.com.
Rules for Clipping Box Tops
Collect, Send and Earn
Clip physical Box Tops from hundreds of purchased participating products. Send your collected Box Tops to an enrolled school of your choice. Your school coordinator will submit collected Box Tops using a completed online submission form with its unique barcode to General Mills for processing and verification. Each valid Box Tops is worth 10 cents to each enrolled and active school if the Box Tops is properly submitted in accordance with these Official Rules.
Qualifying Box Tops
Qualifying Box Tops can be found on packages of participating General Mills products and various partner brands. Qualifying products are subject to change. For a complete list of participating products visit www.boxtops4education.com/earn/clip/Brands.aspx.
Redemptions and Program Deadline
To redeem qualifying Box Tops for cash for a designated school, a school coordinator must complete an official Box Tops Submission Form online for each separate shipment, print out the form and include it with the shipment of qualifying Box Tops. For clarity, a print out of each separate completed online submission form with its unique barcode must be included in each submission package. Box Tops should be submitted in bundles of 50 Box Tops and Bonus Box Tops certificates must be kept in separate bundles. Submissions must be postmarked by November 1st for earnings to be included on December 15th checks and by March 1st to be included on April 15th checks. All submissions are subject to verification.
Expired Box Tops
Box Tops submitted after their printed expiration date are considered void and will not be honored.
All postage and shipping charges are the responsibility of the sender. General Mills reserves the right to return boxes or envelopes mailed without sufficient postage. To assist in providing proof of delivery, a trackable method of delivery is suggested. General Mills is not responsible for late, lost or misdirected mail.
Rules for Earning eBoxTops Credits
eBoxTops credits can be earned for your school through various programs, including the Marketplace, Click and Earn program, online sweepstakes, games and contests, and through various in-store programs. Each eBoxTops credit is worth 10 cents to each enrolled and active school.
Through www.boxtops4education.com, General Mills operates an affiliate marketing program that enables you to access the websites of third-party merchants and purchase various goods or services from these merchants’ websites. The Marketplace allows you to designate a school to which eBoxTops credits will be credited as the result of a commission paid by that merchant for a qualifying purchase. To earn eBoxTops credits for your school by shopping at the Marketplace, you must choose a link from www.boxtops4education.com to a participating merchant’s website, make a qualifying purchase, accept delivery, and pay the merchant for the purchase. If you access a participating merchant’s website in any manner other than by linking directly from the Marketplace, your purchases WILL NOT result in an eBoxTops credit to your school. Your school must also be active in the Box Tops for Education program in order to receive credits through the Marketplace. eBoxTops credits are electronic credits awarded directly to the designated schools and payments will be made to those schools in accordance with these Official Rules. The dollar amount for the corresponding number of eBoxTops credits issued to the school varies depending on the merchant and the item or service purchased. The number of eBoxTops credits for each merchant in effect at the time of purchase will be posted throughout the Marketplace. Please note that certain merchants place restrictions on the types of products that will earn eBoxTops credits or have a maximum credit amount per purchase. Visit www.boxtops4education.com and click on FAQs for more details. General Mills is not liable or responsible in any way for inaccuracies that may be displayed on www.boxtops4education.com relating to payment amounts or percentages, whether as a result of human or mechanical error or otherwise.
Through the Click and Earn program, from time to time General Mills will run various promotional programs whereby schools may earn eBoxTops credits for each consumer action (such as viewing videos, signing up for an email, or answering survey questions) as well as other programs General Mills offers through various partners and advertisers. Information regarding the Click and Earn program or partner programs can be accessed through www.boxtops4education.com/clickandearn. These programs vary from time to time, so check the website frequently for updated offers. Each offer is available for a limited time and in a limited amount, and the offer’s availability is first-come, first-served until the time limit or threshold number of consumer engagements has been reached. Offer incentives vary from one to five eBoxTops per engagement. Each unique consumer will be able to engage and earn in each Click and Earn offer only once during the offer’s lifetime.
From time to time, there may be promotional programs offered whereby schools may earn eBoxTops through consumer participation in sweepstakes. Information regarding sweepstakes can be accessed through www.boxtops4education/bonus.
After you make a purchase through the Marketplace your earnings will be updated to reflect the recent transaction with the amount of the eBoxTops credit earned in a ‘pending’ status. Your online earnings will remain in ‘pending’ status for a 60 day period. During this time, if you make a return, exchange or modify your original purchase in any way, your earnings may be updated to reflect those changes. After the 60 day period, your Marketplace earnings will become ‘confirmed’ and your school earnings will be updated.
Any online earnings obtained through the Click and Earn program or other partner programs will remain in ‘pending’ status for up to 30 days. During this time, your earnings activities will be verified and validated to ensure proper use. After 30 days, your earnings will become confirmed and will be reflected in your Total Earnings.
General Mills is not liable or responsible in any way for inaccuracies that may be displayed on www.boxtops4education.com relating to earned or pending amounts, whether as a result of human or mechanical error or otherwise.
Shipping and Handling Costs for Marketplace
Sales taxes, shipping costs, gift certificates, packaging or handling fees, gift-wrapping services, governmental fees, and certain other charges may not be included in the calculation of the school credit amount.
Purchases must be made from approved merchants linked from www.boxtops4education.com and by users who are registered members of the Box Tops for Education program. No other purchases will qualify for inclusion in the Marketplace, and no eBoxTops credits will be made to a school for non-qualifying or fraudulent purchases. If the selected school is inactive, the credits will not be valid.
The use of “cookies” is necessary to accurately track your purchases from participating merchants. If you set your Internet browser to disable or reject cookies, we will not be able to track and confirm your purchases and make the proper eBoxTops credit to your school.
Payments by Merchants
Online purchases made through the Marketplace from affiliated merchants will earn a percentage of that purchase for a designated school. eBoxTops credit amounts appear next to the merchant’s name throughout the Marketplace. Payments to schools will only be made once the commission payment has been received from the participating merchant. Commission payments from merchants are normally received by General Mills on a monthly or quarterly basis, but in some cases payments may not be received for up to six months from the date of purchase. If a participating merchant fails to provide payment of the proper amount for any reason (including, but not limited to, bankruptcy or a cessation of business operations), no credit – or only a partial credit – will be made to the designated school.
You can access a record of the eBoxTops credits you have earned for your school through the various programs in the “Progress” section of the Box Tops for Education website. Your individual earnings will be updated with a ‘pending’ status within five business days from the date of your purchase or activity. Your school’s earnings will be updated to reflect the activity confirmed from the previous day. If you have made a purchase or participated in an activity and do not see it posted to your individual or school’s account as pending within 30 days, please go to www.boxtops4education.com and click on “Contact Us” to report the error so that we can investigate. Please keep all records of your purchases from participating merchants for at least six months just in case there is a problem with the merchant or your account. Please note that it may take up to 6 months for some merchants to confirm your purchases to General Mills. Additionally, it is not possible to track purchases at an individual user level at certain merchants. Earnings from these merchants will be tracked at the school level, however, and will be included in your school’s total program earnings.
Merchants are Responsible for Their Own Products
General Mills is not responsible for and does not control the products and services offered by participating merchants in the Marketplace. Merchants accessed through the Marketplace are responsible for all aspects of their order processing, order fulfillment, shipping and handling, billing, and customer service. General Mills is not a party to the transactions entered into between you and the merchants with which you choose to do business. If you buy products or services from merchants through the Marketplace, you become a customer of those merchants and therefore should direct any comments, complaints or inquiries regarding your purchases to those merchants, and not to General Mills.
Discontinuation of the My Class Essentials™ Program
The My Class Essentials Program closed on May 25, 2011 however, General Mills created a special program extension to allow teachers to redeem any piggy bank dollars for classroom supplies through our partner, Taymark, until December 6, 2011. Please note that these dollars will no longer earn cash for your designated school. Any dollars remaining in the piggy bank after December 6, 2011 were donated to the school on the teacher’s registry and were included in the April 15, 2012 payment.
